A New Blog is Born |

Trying to blog here is not working for me. It's too time consuming to do posts. I'll still post some sketches and comics on this page, but I set up a new blog. I've missed keeping one. Stop over and say hey. |

Nope, this is not a post about the election, but about this here sketch I did the other day while waiting for the movie Charlie Wilson's War to start (my review: meh, except for the always fabulous P.S. Hoffman). We got there early, because I like to be there early so I can sit in the middle, in the middle, otherwise, I get distracted. The lights in the theater were still up. They hadn't even started any of that local advertising horseshit. Mike was off getting popcorn. I took out my sketchbook and started drawing the back of this guy's head. At the time I was drawing, he had out his iPhone and was watching some video on it at full volume. But the sound of my pencil on the paper was too loud for him, so he kept turning around, video still blaring, to give me the ol' stink-eye. He couldn't see my paper, so had no idea I was drawing him, stealing more of his soul with every mark on the page. |

Judy left me a comment to my last post that it was high time that I got to it again here at the old kitchen table. So here I am. A belated Happy New Year to all. We did get a new computer, a bea-u-tiful iMac, and I'm still trying to get used to it. We were in Missouri for Christmas, which is where Mike's parents live, and when we got back, I had to get after finishing up that new comic that's going to be in an anthology. I have no idea when it's supposed to come out, but will let you all know. I was happy about the way it turned out, but feel like a little bit of a fraud. It's all about accepting your body and blah blah girl power yadda yadda, and I'm not feeling particularly accepting of my body these days, nor all that girl power-y. Am going to be taking the painting class again--it's offered every semester-- though I think that I may focus on drawing, at least for the first six weeks. Got the second volume of Chris Ware's ACME Novelty Datebook and have been looking at it obsessively, and just saw yesterday the Georges Seurat drawing show at MOMA, for which I bought the catalog, and hubba hubba. Some of the most beautiful drawings I've ever seen. So I am all fired up to do some drawing. In addition quitting drinking (really and truly I did, and the reasons are for another post, or maybe a comic), reestablishing a regular yoga practice, being nicer to people, and losing some weight, my New Year's resolutions include posting here more regularly. |
Hateful Computer |
December 6, 2007 |
It's been a month since I put anything up here, and it's not entirely my fault. I've actually been drawing in my sketchbook, but am unable to scan anything in right now on account of our computer is a giant plastic turd. Mike and I had decided to get a piece of furniture for Christmas, but I think a new computer may be in order first. I'm thinking Mac, especially since I just found out today that I can get a discount through work for one. Things are going well other than I hate the holidays and would like to drive a steamroll over the next tourist or in from out of town business person in midtown dragging one of those effin' airline carry-on rolly bag dealies over my toes. Other than that, I haven't got much to say. |

The Latest in Ladies' Fashion for Visiting the Lady Doctor |
October 27, 2007 |

I had doctor's appointment yesterday. Into this office, which is located near Central Park, with its waiting room full of upper middle class prissy white chicks like myself, sailed a woman wearing just what I've drawn here. Oh the looks that were flying around that room, the raised eyebrows. I had to stifle the sort of giggle fit that I used to have in church on those rare occasions when I got dragged along with some friend. I wasn't so much laughing at the fashion disaster, because girl (ok, she was about 50) wore it with authority (and I guess you'd better wear something like that with authority), it was the shocked reaction, and the attempts to politely hide the shocked reactions that I thought was hilarious.
