Ich lebe in einem wilden Wirbel |
August 22, 2007 |
This is such a strange time. The weather here in New York has been more like late October than late August. It's been grey and chilly. I broke out the boots today. It makes me feel like I should be getting my books and supplies ready for school. I've had the urge to dip into some fat book on an arcane area of history. Coming back from that intense week in New Hampshire is contributing to my strange feeling. It was nonstop painting for four and a half days, and now, I've barely had time to look at a picture in a magazine since I've been back. It's my last week at the place where I've worked for six years. I've had errands to run, things to do, so that I've not been going in to work my usual way. I feel out of sorts because of it. And next Monday, instead of coming out to Brooklyn, I will be heading to Midtown. My whole relationship with the city is about to shift. All of this is good. Exciting. And supremely strange feeling. |
Back from Camp, No Moose Sightings | August 19, 2007 |
Well, I'm back. What a week. We spent all day every day painting outside. I had planned to do a lot of little pen and ink drawings, but ended up working mostly in watercolor. There was plenty of material also for comix, which I will get to work on shortly before I forget everything. It will be interesting to see what happens to my comix style as a result of the week in New Hampshire. Made a few things that I really liked. I'm posting a few of them here for you to see. I posted a couple of new things over on the comix page. Check 'em out. Also, just found out I am going to be contributing to another anthology. More info on that soon. |
Launched? |

The book launch party for the anthology I was in was last night. I felt old. And socially awkward. I didn't think I'd feel that way, but I did. There was no way to know who the other contributors were, so I couldn't even go introduce myself and chat about what they'd done. I had been looking forward to meeting some other women cartoonists. It felt a little like standing in the cafeteria in junior high when your best friend was out sick and you had no idea where to sit. Mike and I kind of wandered around and looked at some of the stuff hanging on the walls, and beat it after about 15 minutes. We walked down to the Noho Star, which is a nice little place on Bleecker and Lafayette to have some dinner. I was kind of disappointed. I'd even done a minicomic, and there was no opportunity to even give any to anyone or set them out anywhere. At least I have some for the next comics hoo-ha I attend. After we ordered I noticed someone right behind Mike. A bald man with a grey beard and red glasses sitting in a very fancy wheelchair. I knew who it was immediately. Chuck Close! That made me instantly happy. We ordered a giant banana split for dessert to share. On top of it was a fortune cookie. It said "Begin...The rest is easy." |
